Our Madame Sarah Diri Shella is a parboiled rice which has been partially boiled in the husk. Parboiling enhances the nutritional content of the rice. It also makes the rice less likely to stick together during cooking, resulting in firmer and separate grains.

Basmati rice

In a saucepan bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add in 1 cup of rice, 1 teaspoon of salt (optional) and 1 teaspoon of butter or olive oil (optional).

Cover the pan with a lid and reduce heat to low, simmer for 15 minutes.

Remove from heat and let stand (covered) for 5 minutes. Yields approximately 3-¼ cups
